Background:
Several Chinese manufacturers established factories in Mexico to avoid high U.S. tariffs and maintain export capacity. However, they faced serious customs issues — lack of HS classification, incorrect documentation, and even cargo destruction due to regulatory noncompliance.
Solution:
YIT’s Mexico customs team provided on-site support to streamline the process:
Result:
Each client achieved faster clearance, lower costs, and zero demurrage.

Challenge:
During the peak Christmas season, a client’s container was detained and returned by U.S. Customs (CBP) after inspection, threatening on-time delivery and holiday sales.
Solution:
YIT coordinated a bonded transfer from the inspection station to Canada under CBP supervision. After completing customs clearance in Canada, the cargo was unloaded, re-trucked, and transported back to the U.S. for final delivery to the consignee’s warehouse.

Challenge:
A 40-foot GP container shipped from China to Vancouver was destined for Montreal via rail. However, due to overweight hazardous cargo (exceeding rail limits), the container was held at port for several days, causing potential demurrage and delivery delays.
Solution:
YIT immediately coordinated a local hazmat warehouse in Vancouver to unload and re-pack the cargo into compliant containers suitable for rail transport — a solution significantly cheaper than full truckload delivery. The shipment was then sent via multimodal transport from Vancouver directly to Montreal.
